The Solid Waste Management Corporation is aware that a fire occurred at the landfill facility. We are pleased to advise that the fire has been contained. We wish to thank the St. Kitts Fire and Rescue Service and all response teams for their prompt action.
We also extend our sincere apologies to neighboring communities who were affected by smoke during this period. Your wellbeing matters to us.As a precaution, some residual smoke and ash may still be present in the area. We ask residents to:
— Keep windows and doors closed until the air fully clears
— Rinse any fruits, vegetables or outdoor surfaces affected by ash
— Seek medical attention if you are experiencing breathing difficulty
